People have always been going out at night with friends to have a nice time and relax, whether it be the corner pub, some posh restaurant or a concert. Clubculture has come a long way since the first real ‘club’, where in the early eighties they played all kinds of music, mainly pop, occasionally something more experimental. But the music most associated with clubs nowadays is techno music, which originated in the cities of Detroit and Chicago in the USA in the middle 80’s. In the British Isles it all started in the summer of 1988, also called as the ‘Summer of Love’. A year earlier a group of British convicts had been sent to the island of Ibiza for a holiday. They started ‘mixing’ with the locals and they discovered ‘acid house’, a type of drug-fuelled foreign dance they adopted and brought back to England with them. Acid house started to spread rapidly through underground channels. Small parties were held in mysterious places, and many people adopted the music as be ing ‘their thing’, something new, exciting and illegal.
